Rediscovering the Bible has been promoting Bible literacy for the past nine years. We believe that such knowledge gives us a better sense of our prophetic justice roots, and that it also helps us counteract the misuse of the Bible by those who wield it as a political weapon. We study one book at a time with the help of a commentary.

This fall we are studying The Gospel According to Mark. We will be guided in this study by The Gospel of Mark: A Beginner’s Guide to the Good News by Amy-Jill Levine. Dr. Levine, a Jewish New Testament scholar, is noted for her accessible and insightful commentaries on the Bible including her commentary on Jesus’ parables, Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi. Her approach to Mark is equally intriguing. Our discussions are typically lively and informative.
