“Don’t Let Me Lose My Soul…”

By Rev. Sarah Campbell

It’s easy to get overwhelmed or to begin to despair in these days. But let’s encourage one another on the Jesus path. I invite you to try to do the following, in no particular order (though you who are parenting or caregiving, or who have demanding jobs, may need to prioritize differently).

  • Stay grounded in God through (daily) prayer, meditation, or walking outdoors near trees and water. (Have you tried Centering Prayer? See Faith Formation for Adults.)
  • Be immersed in joy as much as possible, and limit your news intake.
  • Care for one another and receive care. Show up at church and be present for one another in community. Consider joining Prayerways or Hotdish Ministry Team, or knitting prayer shawls… https://www.creeksideucc.org/connect/caring-support/
  • Organize. Do the email Action Alerts, do the tabling actions on Sundays, show up at an action, and even consider joining one of our core justice teams to continue to move forward in our justice work. Act.
  • Resist… Show up at the big national protests of non-violent resistance, like Hands Off and No Kings. And turn out other family members and friends for those. *
  • Don’t “other” those with whom you may disagree. Instead, reach out: Get your braver angel on for family reunions, for heading into greater Minnesota, etc. Don’t succumb to the tribal zeitgeist.

* Though the IRS says churches can now endorse political candidates, Creekside UCC will not and will stay the course. We’ll keep doing what we’re doing. We’ll do root-cause organizing and won’t be silent about fascism and white nationalism, but we will not engage in partisan politics.
