Global Justice Advocacy Team

Creekside’s 30+ member Global Justice Team organizes the church to resist the global systemic forces bent on exploitation—particularly of marginalized communities and vulnerable people. These systemic forces –the New Testament calls them “the Powers”—are designed for profit and tyranny and must be called out and resisted.
We empower the narratives of Indigenous people and water protectors. We advocate for the oppressed in Guatemala, Honduras, Palestine, and Indigenous nations in the U.S. We do this by traveling to places and talking to people living under the heel of oppressors. We do this by traveling to Washington, D.C. to raise the awareness of our country’s leaders. And we do this by educating our church community and creating opportunities for tabling, protesting, and resisting.
We regularly travel to Guatemala to be in solidarity with Indigenous Mayan land and water protectors fighting corporate extractive industries. On the second Tuesday of every month, we host a Global Justice night. We hear from experts on global justice and stay updated as to global justice solidarity opportunities that are available. Creekside was instrumental in the production of the documentary, Gold Fever, available to watch for free online here.
We cannot do our work alone. We benefit from the wisdom and guidance of many organizations and coalitions. Here are some of them:
- Global Ministries
- Coalition to Dismantle the Doctrine of Discovery
- Cristosal
- Churches for Middle East Peace
- Honduras Solidarity Network
- Minnesota Repair Communities, a coalition of congregations committed to supporting Indigenous justice and Makoce Ikikcupi’s work of Dakota land cultural recover
